A shocked Amrita Rao not only watched a woman being beaten up on the streets of Versova but also tried to intervene

Amrita Rao was recently caught in a scary situation while she was on way to catch an early morning flight for the promotions of her recent release, Singh Saab the Great.

A source close to her says, `Amrita was rushing to catch her 6 am flight and had left her house at 4 am. On her way to the airport near Versova, she spotted an auto rickshaw driver beating a lady brutally and dragging her by her hair. Sensing something was wrong, she stopped her car and got out. The auto driver told her that he was beating the woman as she was a thief. Suddenly, three of his friends joined him. This is when Amrita decided to get back into the car and move away from the scene.`

Adding twist to the matter, the actress had forgotten her cellphone as she had left home in a hurry.

Adds the source, `Amrita threatened them saying that she was calling the cops but to her dismay, she realised that her cell was at home. She then went to a nearby police station, but there was no one present to register a complaint. As she could not wait any longer, she headed for the airport.`

On her return, she thought that it would be too late to register a police complain.

Amrita says, `I haven't slept well since the incident. I shudder to think what would have happened had the four men got together and attacked me and my driver. It was still dark and no one would have even heard our screams. This made me realise how unsafe the city is for women and the injustice that happens to the women in the country.`

She further adds, `Ideally, I should have called the police and informed them about the location and the rickshaw number, so that they could take action, but getting involved was too dangerous and would have only worsen things. The fact that I raised my voice against a women getting beaten up is the only satisfaction that stays with me.`
